Roxanne and Sue Passed Their Certification Tests!

Roxanne is now an ABO certified optician, and Sue, who was already an ABO certified optician, just passed her advanced certification test! We are very proud to be able to say that we are one of the few offices in the state of Michigan whose entire staff is certified.    

Local Optometrist’s Vision Helps Prepare Kids for School

Dowagiac, Michigan – On August 18, 2010, local optometrist Dr. Alan K. Montgomery and his staff held their third annual Children’s Vision Day.  32 children and their families took advantage of complimentary vision screenings, played games, and received prizes.  This annual event is offered by the practice as a day of fun for kids and education for their parents.  

“80% of what a child learns is done visually,” said Dr. Alan Montgomery.  “Many children have difficulties their parents aren’t aware of.  We see children that may have struggled for years because of an undiagnosed vision problem.  The change that can be seen in a child once they receive the help they need is amazing.  Our Children’s Vision Day gives us the opportunity to see kids that may not otherwise get their vision checked and to educate parents on the importance of eye health care,” he says.   

The American Optometric Association recommends that children receive their first eye exam between 6 to 12 months of age, again before starting school and then bi-annually, or more often, if needed.  “Good vision is necessary for success in school and in life,” stated Dr. Montgomery.  “We want to make sure we do everything we can to help the youngest members of our community succeed.”
